Alex Cho’s Biography


Alex Man-Wai Cho is a London-based, Hongkongese composer, pianist, organist, accompaniment, and improvisor. He studied in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance for his Master of Music degree in Composition, graduated in 2023. He studied composition under Alex Paxton, Gwyn Pritchard, Nye Perry, and Composition and Piano Performance under Douglas Finch. Alex studied organ under Gary Tong in Hong Kong.

Alex was the finalist of Artisee Over the Classic Composition Contest in 2024, and had won the first prize of IV edition and Ill edition of Composers Competition "Francesco Mario Pagano" in 2024 and 2023, and numerous other competitions including the Hong Kong Virtuosos Music Competition. He is also one of 12 composers in the longlist of Cheltenham Music Festival Composer Academy 2022, one of the 5 finalists of the Runswick Composition Competition, and is 1 of the 3 composers from all over the world to have chosen by the Vienna Opera Academy to participate their Vienna Composition Lab 2023.

His opera "Esther", has been premiered in concert format at Blackheath Hall under his own baton, and his concert suite, "Esther Fantasy", based on the opera, has been premiered at Cadogan Hall under the baton of Jessica Cottis. Universal Edition in Austria, and etcetera Musica in Italy is currently publishing his music.
